As on October 30th, 2009, the Washington State Board on Geographic Names voted 5 to 1 in favor of naming the inland waters between Washington and british Columbia the “Salish Sea”.  Officially, there has been no name to associate these waters which include Puget Sound, the Straits of Juan De Fuca, San Juan Islands, Straits of Georgia and the Discovery Islands.

On November 14th, 2009,  the US Board of Geographic Names gave final approval for the new name adoption to appear on official maps.  (Well, it’s actually an old name that was scribbled on some of the earliest exploration maps of the region.)

But nevertheless, the expansive 5,000 square mile inland sea deserves a new round of exploration.  The purpose of this blog is to document our findings as Captain Woodie and his production crew explore the islands, coves and native inhabitants of the region.  We will report back on where to stay, what to do and what to eat–among other things.
